For this post, I am going to use the program iftop, which gives me the ability to see which of my kids is killing my bandwidth with updating their Steam games. The thing we want is data. Some of the netcat functionality is implemented in the busybox binary that is used to implement a lot of the Unix utilities in OpenWRT.

Or, at least their version number. So, the binaries you pull from the Chaos Calmer OpenWRT repository will be built against one version of the libraries say, for example, libpthread. From my experimenting, it seems like only the version number has changed, and that the linked functions are actually the same. My temporary solution is to make a wrapper script that creates the symlinks prior to running the imported binary, and keeping the wrapper script on one of the persistent areas e.

Thanks to resurection of an old thread I now see that this throttling has been around for almost a year, that it requires users to factory reset after every firmware update! Couple this with the complete unusability of my RBS30 with the RBK50 kit disconnects after three days - only fixed by turning the wall satellite off and I've had enough. Netgear offered to work with me to resolve the RBS30 but they haven't responded to either message that I sent.
I'm not wasting any more time on this. I'm not that keen on commercial AP, because I can't easily run Ethernet through our house - its multi-story and none of the walls line up between the floors. That's why I was looking for something with WiFi backhaul. What do folk recommend?
Agree, please suggest replacement mesh wifi systems preferably with review links. I was looking at the Velop, but it too has some issues check out the Velop Forum. Also only 2 Ethernet ports on the router is a bit of a deal-breaker for me. Like the Eero, it's not available in New Zealand. Dlink are also releasing an updated version of the Covr the Covr C in the next couple of months, but this really doesn't standout from the crowd since it only has a limited number of Ethernet ports.
But reviews seem to indicate that it performs quite well, especially for range. There's a ton of reviews on Amazon. The sad thing about all this is that Orbi's design is still my sweet spot. If it could just be stable with the RBW30 and and not throttle speeds after firmware updates then I'd be a happy with it. Talk about Netgear snatching defeat from the jaws of victory So you want to believe the Amazon reviews on a product your looking to buy, but refuse to believe the same reviews on a product you dislike?
With all due respect to your right to an opinion - I suspect that you're one of the 'lucky' majority who appear to have had no problems with their Orbi. I get it that that a significant number of users are happy with the product.
But I also note that reviewers on Amazon were critical - that a lot of unhappy bears. So I bought my Orbi s in Feb of this year and they worked flawlessly until about 2 days ago.
Now I'm having so much trouble I almost don't care how much I spend on another product to get these wifi issues fixed. I keep reading reviews about how wonderful this product is and I can't help it but get more angry because I cannot get mine to work what so ever. I continue to consider spending the money for the Eero Pro setup but I am afraid that unless I do ethernet backhaul the performance will be lacking.
Anyone have any experience with other products or how to fix this current one? I'm also currently on hold for Netgear support for which I have no faith in and have been for the better part of 3 hours now. How are they still selling units?! I have been able to return these after the return policy for store credit and am now a happy Eero owner! So far still supporting the same speeds with ease of setting it up. The one thing that I will say is that there's no web UI for the eero.
Thanks for posting your experience for the benefit of other. Eero is not available in New Zealand, where I am, but it sounds interesting. Netgear support have been working with me and we've solved one of the two problems speed throttling with only the RBW30 disconnections still to go. Apart from the RBW30 disconnections, I'm pleased with Orbi's performance good video streaming and coverage over the house .While pricey, the Netgear Orbi RBK50 is one of the fastest, most powerful routers we've tested, even without its mesh extension.

I have noticed that there are a lot of people here running Tomato an openWRT firmware, so it seems appropriate to ask here. I pointed out that this isn't the best place for this question. There are a handful of messages on alternatives, perhaps every month or so, but you won't get the same in depth discussion here that you will get elsewhere. Your both rite third party firmware gets very little support here and you can also post about it here too. Some third party firmware offers great features on paper but are not all the claim to be depending on the hardware and what you want to do.
Losing support from Netgear is really not a problem LOL. You only get support for the first 90 days after purchase anyway, and so far their support has been about as much use a 3 colourblind hedgehogs in a bag. I have switched back to my ASUS router for now, but the R wasn't exactly cheap, so I don't want to let it go to waste. The original Orbi router and satellites each measured 6. As with the original, the three units look the same at first glance, but the top of the router unit has a faint blue finish. This is the port you connect your existing modem to. This means the router unit only has one spare Ethernet port for hooking up wired devices. If you have a lot of devices that still require wired internet connections, then this reduced connectivity may disappoint. The shrunk-down size — both physical and when it comes to price — has led to reductions elsewhere. Having the antennas housed internally in the body makes for a nicer-looking device, but can potentially limit the coverage compared to routers with external antenna, especially ones that can be positioned to point at various devices.
The antennas are capable of beamforming, however, which is a feature that cleverly detects the location of devices connected to the Wi-Fi, and aims the wireless network towards that location for better coverage. The straightforward setup of the original Orbi system carried over to the new system, so you get an attractive and easy-to-use app for your Android or iOS device, which takes you through the process of setting up the Orbi AC RBK We plugged the router unit into our modem and followed the instructions.
This led to a rather painless setup for the router unit. Netgear is obviously confident that the setup procedure is straightforward, as the instructions it supplies, either in the form of the physical and flimsy manual that comes in the box, or through the app, are very basic.
This can be an issue when it misses out an important bit of information, or when something goes wrong and you want to troubleshoot it, which happened to us.
This is because after installing the router unit, the app asked us if we wanted to install the updated firmware for the unit. We agreed to this, as we wanted to test the router with the most recent software installed. However, this was to cause unforeseen problems, and nowhere in the documentation were we warned about these. With the router unit set up and working well, we then went to add a satellite unit elsewhere in the building to help expand the W-Fi.
This is accomplished in the same way satellites were added to the original Orbi: you plug in the satellite, press the 'Sync' button on the satellite, then press the same button on the router and let the units talk to each other; an LED light at the top of each unit lets you know when they'e connected.
The process should be simple, but we hit a snag. This was that the router unit just could not find the satellite. We moved the satellite unit closer, but no luck — even if they were in the same room, the two units wouldn't pair.
We were perplexed, and checked the documentation — and this is where the lack of in-depth documentation caused an issue, as while the manual explains what color the LED lights change to if there's a problem, it does not say how to fix that problem.
It turns out that when the router firmware has been updated, it then can't find satellites whose firmware hasn't been updated — and you can't update the satellite firmware without it being connected to the router. So we had to reset the router to the factory defaults, set it up again, connect the satellites, then update the firmware. We did that and everything connected fine, but if there had been a warning about this in the manual or app it would have saved us time and energy spent fixing this issue.
With that problem solved, however, the rest of the setup procedure went well, and the well-made app helped us finish setting up the system. The setup procedure is definitely aimed at casual users, and is made as simple as possible. The Orbi systems both old and new have a dedicated connection between the satellite and the router, and with the newer version this connection is slower.
However, we found that even one satellite, never mind two, may be superfluous unless you have a very large property. We tested it in a medium-sized property in the UK, with three floors, and with just the router unit plugged in we got excellent coverage throughout the building.Some people have the view that everyone should have the freedom to control the software that runs on devices they own, if required, to make necessary changes for the better.

I have following devices, but did not find any support from libreCMC. From where the list of supported devices was gathered? I like the AiMesh clustering of WiFi routers.
